Partners, riders and others involved in sani2c have plenty to say about the event. If you are new to the event, you might like to hear about it from the horse’s mouth. So, here goes…
Sector 1 was in the dark and cold but never once felt like a slog. Slicing through sublime forest trails
in the dead of night with 3 good mates was enough to have us whooping and screaming with joy into
the stillness of the night. The floating bridge was easy-peasy, the key is to just keep the pedals
turning.
When the sun finally rose as we hit sector 2, it revealed the Umkomaas valley in all her glory with the
river itself shrouded in mist hundreds of meters below. We had a free run all the way down and took
full advantage to rail the berms and even get some air. The pain of the climb out of the valley was
lessened by the fact that our seconds were just behind us blaring "Eye of the Tiger", "The Final
Countdown", The Rocky theme and other corny hype songs.
The 3rd sector was flat-out to try and evade our chasers but the flow of the trails made me forget the
acid in my legs. The disappointment of not sealing the win was short-lived once I thought about the
path we had travelled and the memories we had made over the past 13 hours.
This is an event I will definitely return to and that I will recommend to anyone looking for a dose of
adventure.

The opportunity to ride the route at a more relaxed pace and being able to look around and fully
take in the scenery, is probably the biggest stand-out. My partner and I have done MANY Sani's, and
we were seeing things that we had previously rushed past while racing our batch.
The climb out of the valley and rain at Jolivet was character building stuff. Being welcomed into the
finish like champions (even after 16.5 hrs...) is something that will stick with us for a long time!
Thanks again.

We did’t realize in the beginning what the support role would entail but quickly developed
into a mayor task; feeding riders finding check points in the dark, device challenges,
potholes etc.
Then not to forget the friends you do it with the support bantering etc. Having done a few
Sani2C’s & a Jhb2C I had a good understanding of the route. I was really impressed with the
amount of work done on the route since Jhb2C.
Safety aspects were so well marked and obstacles covered with soil in the sections done in
the dark. Well done, untimely the safety of the riders takes high priority which was noticeable
– thank you!!!
Thanks again really one for the memory bank.
